For immediate release
January 25, 2018 - Peace River High School (PRHS) is thrilled to announce that they have been approved for the “Community Initiatives Program-Based Grant” funded by the Government of Alberta and the Alberta Lottery Fund, to create a state-of-the-art audio and visual multimedia center in the PRHS school gymnasium. The Community Initiatives Program Project-Based Grant is geared to build strong communities and enhance the quality of life for Albertans.
The multimedia center includes the purchase and installation of speaker systems, cordless microphones, a multimedia control center, three large TV screens for the mezzanine and the student gathering area and a large LED display for the gymnasium, which will all be connected for live feed capability.
“Not only will this be a huge asset for students of PRHS in programming and school events, the multimedia center will be great for existing and new community organizations that use our gymnasium to host various events and presentations” says PRHS Principal, Mark Owens.
With the approval of the grant and with the support of the PRHS Parent Advisory Committee, donations received from local businesses and money raised by the school, PRHS will provide the school and community with a space that seats over 500 people equipped with the latest audio and visual equipment.
PRHS thanks parent volunteers on the PRHS Parent Advisory Committee and those that gave of their time to work at a casino. PRHS also extends gratitude to Meyers Norris Penny (MNP) Accounting, Stone Insurance, Steed Grading and Thomas Homes and RV in Peace River for their generous donations and support. "We are very grateful for the support of our local school community and government agencies" says Owens.
“This is great news for Peace River High School, the community of Peace River and the surrounding region” says PRSD Board Chair Darren Kuester. “Creating engaging and innovative learning environments is very important in PRSD. This project enhances program delivery and opportunities for students, while at the same time provides the community with a fantastic space to utilize. The board commends PRHS for their work on this project and thanks parents, local businesses and the Alberta Government for their support.”
Phase One of the project, including upgrades to the audio and the initial wiring was completed last school year with the funds raised by the school. Phase Two will commence this year, which includes installation of the large TV screens and the LED display in the gymnasium. PRHS anticipates Phase Two to be completed before the end of this school year. The total cost of the project is $140,000.
