Appointment of Home Education Coordinator for PRSD

May 2019 - Peace River School Division’s 3-Year Plan speaks to engaging with families residing in the PRSD catchment area who chose to access education outside of the division.  The board is committed to providing opportunities for students to further their learning in a variety of ways that meets their needs and this includes expanding the homeschooling program as an alternative learning environment.  We are pleased to announce the appointment of Golda David to the position of Home Education Coordinator effective with the 2019-2020 school year. Golda was a previous PRSD employee having been a Teacher at Peace River High School from 2015-2016 as well as Acting Principal at Nampa Public School for the 2016-2017 school year.  

 

Golda received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario and went on to complete her Masters of Education in 2017 from the University of New Brunswick.  She has over fourteen years’ experience as a teacher, primarily at the junior and senior high school level, as well as two years’ experience as a school-based administrator.

 

Having experienced a diverse career that includes leadership roles, extensive exposure to educational technology, and a keen interest in aboriginal instruction, Golda has spent the last year exercising her passion and hands-on application with alternative education.  

 

In her involvement with alternative education, she has gained a sound understanding of laws and best practices as it relates to schooling at home, in addition to, becoming familiar with many varieties of homeschooling in Alberta.  She believes that students should have as many options and alternatives as possible to foster their learning and has expanded this philosophy in the operation of the “Academy of Personalized Learning” with High Prairie School Division.   Golda has established many contacts with various alternative school leaders in Edmonton and Calgary as well as at the provincial level. She has created trusting relationships with students, families, and stakeholders.

 

Golda continues to broaden her understanding of homeschooling by exploring and applying delivery of curriculum beyond the traditional homeschooling methods.
